I just have to remember my fucking password for this Tumblr (i’ve already had to change it twice).

Anyway… I’ve had a lot of shit going on this year so I haven’t really been thinking very much about this distro, but I love zines (working on them & reading them) so I figure I’ll try to keep this going.

I just got through reading a great poetry mini zine called full-time poverty by my friend Laura-Marie (who also writes Functionally Ill which is legit one of my favorite zines & which is on this distro!, Please Pass the Plants which is great, and other zines I’ve also enjoyed), and a little fold-out, hand-written piece that I’m not sure about whether it’s a neat mini zine or a personal note to me (L-M and I are penpals) but I loved it. (Thanks L-M!!) And I’m about to read a new zine that I’m excited about by Laura-Marie’s partner Ming called With Intention: a zine about a person with narcolepsy.

So, with regard to this distro, here’s the zines that are on it as of right now:

Functionally Ill #10 & #11

Bound to Struggle volumes 1, 3, 4 & 5

A Little Light in the Darkness #1

upcomingzines will be more issues of A Little Light in the Darkness, an as-yet-untitled perzine about non-binary gender stuff & transitioning, annnd I dunno what else yet.

oh, hi.

i almost never update this blog anymore cuz i forget to (i even forgot my password), soooo i’m just gonna do all my zine distro stuff from my main tumblr instead. dancelikeyrfighting.tumblr.com

So, I have a whole mess of various queer, trans*, feminist, punk, skinhead, etc. zines from Xerox Revolutionaries Distro that Hank sent me years ago after he stopped running that distro. Figured I’d see if anyone wants any of them. I can do little “grab bags” or send them out individually, whatever folks wanna do. None of these zines are on my distro, they were all on Xerox Revolutionaries, and I only have single copies of each issue of the zines. Whichever ones are leftover that I don’t donate to Sherwood Forest Zine Library & Bookshare (a new zine library & bookshare starting up in Austin, TX) or keep for myself, and that are not claimed by someone else, I will send to QZAP if they want them. (Support QZAP! They’re an awesome zine archive project with LOADS of queer/trans*/bi/pans/les/gay/etc zines available to download for free, read online, etc. Wonderful, wonderful resource.) If folks who want zines can send me a little money for the shipping, that’d be great cuz I’m broke as shit, but if not that’s okay. The zines are totally free (or if you wanna do a trade, that’s fine, too. either way). I don’t have all the zine titles written down yet, but when I do, I’ll post here again and people can pick which ones they want. Also, please know I am not endorsing any of the zines, not saying I agree with their content, or anything like that, and I haven’t read them all in a while so I don’t remember if they’re triggering so read with caution or whatever.

Oh, the posters and stickers (not pictured) are up for grabs as well.

P.S. In order to get all the zines in the picture (above), I piled zines on top of each other, so you can’t tell that I have several issues of some of the zines.

[image: two quarter-sized black and white zines titled...

[image: two quarter-sized black and white zines titled Functionally Ill, above four half-sized zines that are white, orange, light blue, and light green titled Bound to Struggle. the zines are against a pale blue, floral print background]

bottom row (left to right): Bound to Struggle: Where Kink and Radical Politics Meet, volumes 1, 3, 4 & 5.

zines that will be in the distro in the future:

[whatever i wind up calling my genderqueer transition zine]

Making New Maps #1 (HOPEFULLY)

Assuming I’m feeling better, I plan on being at DC Zinefest this Saturday, July 28th, at St. Stephen’s church in Columbia Heights, hopefully with some of the zines I’m distroing. (I’m not tabling, but if I can magically get zine copies done in time, I’ll probably have them in a red backpack.) It goes from 11AM to 5PM and I dunno if I’ll be there the whole time but I’m gonna try to at least go for part of it (I have pretty bad social anxiety & am really introverted so big groups of people stress me out). If you happen to see me there, you can talk to me and let me know if you’re interested in any of the zines in my distro. (My name’s Jordan, by the way.)

Photo

Photo

Photo

Photo

distro update

Pansycore Distro is currently carrying:

For those asking about my new packing...

radicalqueery:

For those asking about my new packing harness.

tomboy8:

Ok so per request- here are instructions on how to make the superhero packer strap. good luck and have fun crafting! results may vary- I do not recommend any extreme physical activity or sorts.

retyping since the font is so small..

1. Start with a pair of (briefs) underwear, scissors, measuring tape (if needed). [image: light-colored packing dildo lying beside scissors on top of what looks like a black tee shirt with writing on it.]

2. Cut the waist band off of the underwear [image: Superman briefs underwear with scissors lying on top with the black waist band cut off.]

3. Use one of the seams left on the briefs to wrap around the base of the penis shaft (this should be very tight- if it is too loose the penis will fall out- oops) [image: cut seam of part of the Superman briefs underwear looping around the bottom of the shaft of a dildo.]

4. Take another part of the seams to wrap from the base of the shaft around the front of the balls to the top of the back balls. (where my index finger is to the thumb) [image: light-skinned person’s hand pinching the balls of a dildo with thumb and forefinger around the balls end to hold the underwear seam around it.]

5. This is what the loops will look like, the loop will go around the base of the shaft and the long one will support the back of the balls. [image: light-skinned person’s hand holding a looped seam from underwear with thumb and forefinger, part of the seam hanging down loosely in front.]

6. Sew the top of the loop and the top of the long seam to the bottom of the front of the waist band [image: light-skinned person’s hand holding the Superman briefs waist band sewn with loops of seam, shown inside-out]

7. Sew the bottom of the long seam to the bottom of the loop

8. Another view [image: alternate view of previous image of inside-out Superman briefs harness.]

9. View with the penis in, make sure it is in tight with no gaps at the top. [image: profile shot of light-colored flaccid dildo hanging in sewn Superman briefs harness.]

does anyone else think these instructions are written in a way that’s confusing?

interesting way of making a harness though, it seems better than DIY harnesses i’ve made in the past.

Call For Submissions - Making New Maps zine

edited (new contact info, deadline, etc)

~ hierarchy of trans*ness; moving beyond the dominant narratives & images of trans* experiences & identities, gender expressions, transition paths, etc.

~ misogyny, transmisogyny, and/or anti-femininity in trans* and genderqueer spaces & communities (and in cis gay/lesbian/queer spaces & communities).

~ gender & body autonomy (or lackthereof) and intersex, trans*, and genderqueer people

~ the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM, “Bible of psychiatry”), WPATH/Harry Benjamin Society, and the pathologization of trans* and intersex people

~ language, pronouns

~ transitioning and classism, racism, dis/ability, medical status, mental health status, ageism, etc.; pressure to transition

~ medically transitioning via underground hormones & surgery; holistic/alternative transitioning

~ gender policing, gender essentialism, gender stereotyping

~ non-binary gender identities & gender expressions and transition therapy; transitioning (medically and/or socially) as a non-binary-gendered persyn

~ moving beyond dominant images & narrative of “genderqueer”; the genderqueer community (is there one?)

~ stopping transitioning (voluntarily or involuntarily) socially and/or medically; lack of information about & support of stopping medical transition in trans* spaces & communities;

~ shifting gender identity and/or expression before, during or after social or medical transition

~ coming out vs not coming out

~ navigating gendered spaces (bathrooms, etc.) as a binary or non-binary trans*, intersex, genderqueer, etc., person

Essays, poems, rants, etc. all welcome but no erotica, please – I want this zine to be accessible to kids & teens as well as adults! (And obviously no racism/xenophobia, classism, ableism, transphobia, transmisogyny or misogyny or sexism, homo/queerphobia, ageism, etc.!) Please feel free to submit anonymously, using a pseudonym, or using a nickname if you like.

Maximum of 3 pages single-spaced per submission, please! Typed or handwritten.

Trans and Genderqueer Adolescence Stories

((this isn’t my zine, i just wanted to pass it along for anyone who may be interested cuz it sounds rad. Carrie said i could post this.—Jordan of Pansycore Distro))

from We Make Zines http://wemakezines.ning.com/group/queerzinesandqueerzinesters/forum/topics/call-for-submissions-trans-and-genderqueer-adolescence-stories?

Topic: Essays, anecdotes, comix, poetry from Trans and Genderqueer folks telling stories of going through puberty and adolescence. Take that as broadly or specifically as you’d like; literally how your body was changing and how your brain was dealing with it, or going to a dance and how that made you feel, to coming out to your family, teachers, classmates, etc…

Audience: 7-12 grade students.

Specifics: The pieces should be free of cursing and super overt sexual content. Keep in mind that 7th graders are about 13 years old.

Why/Purpose: I taught a piece from the zine, The Next Body, in my 7/8th grade zine writing class, in it the writer is discussing his decision to have top surgery. After class a student approached me asking for an extra copy of the piece to give to her friend who has recently come out as Trans. “She is getting super big breasts and having a hard time dealing with it” my student told me. I gave her an extra copy of the piece and went home to dig through my books and zines to find more I could offer. It’s rough trying to find age appropriate material for a Trans kid. It’s imperative that young people who are Trans and Genderqueer see themselves in print, ideally in the curriculum but at the minimum in readings a queer, liberal, concerned, shit starting teacher passes on to them. I know, I know… all GLBT kids should see themselves in print but it’s extra hard to find Trans material, that’s why I want to start with the T as opposed to GLB.

Puberty and adolescence are hard for everyone but it’s extra alienating and difficult when you feel alone and radically different from everyone else. I want this zine to be an offering to Trans and Genderqueer kids who need to see themselves in print, to know that they are not alone. I want it to offer comfort and hope to some young people who may be struggling. I want it to open the eyes and hearts of non-trans kids so they become allies. I also want it to open up dialogue between students, parents and teachers. It’s my job to teach students reading and writing but the bigger more satisfying and important part of my job is to offer support, care, and guidance to ALL kids in their emotional and personal development. Unfortunately, as a society, we’re forgetting some kids, we’re looking the other way when Trans kids need us to look right at them and say “You are okay, you are in fact, amazing - just the way you are. And you’re not alone either.” I’d like this zine to be a move towards that.

I keep this quote in mind when I’m writing curriculum and deciding what to teach for the year. Perhaps it will inspire you.

“When those who have the power to name and to socially construct reality choose not to see or hear you, whether you are dark-skinned, old, disabled, female, or speak with a different accent or dialect than theirs, when someone with the authority of a teacher, say, describes a world and you are not in it, there is a moment of psychic disequilibrium, as if you looked into a mirror and saw nothing.”

–Adrianne Rich

Send submissions to: Brilliantmistake01@gmail.com

Please send as an attachment in basic word formatting with “Zine Submission” as the subject.

Include; a title for your piece, how you’d like to be credited - the name you’d like to use, and any contact info you want included in the zine. If you’d like a copy of the finished product send me your mailing address.

Deadline: March 1, 2012.

Publication: April, 2012

You can e-mail me with questions, suggestions, complains, that kinda stuff too.

Thanks!

(ooc) GUYS THIS JUST HAPPENED TO MY DASH. Yesterday I was was wondering what all this talk about the Internet bill was, and I thought it was small - BUT GUYS, TUMBLR STAFF IS NOW ASKING FOR OUR SUPPORT. SO…. I’M OFFICIALLY FREAKING OUT.

Do not ignore this. Do not scroll past. Take action.

PLEASE JUST DO IT.

I just wrote a very lengthy letter to the Congress, please do the same!

These bills are dangerous. Seriously consider writing or calling your representative and your senator (if it passes the house) if you live in the US.

i kinda doubt petitioning senators, etc. will do much good, but it’s worth a shot i guess.

nervous habit distro ~> pansycore distro

site: pansycoredistro dot-webs-dot-com

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:

MAKING NEW MAPS is a compilation zine about reconsidering or stopping the current or future course of social and/or medical gender transition for any reason. This zine is for binary & non-binary transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, questioning, intersex, and other folks who are at any stage of social or medical transition.

Here are some ideas to get your thoughts flowing:

~ hierarchy of trans*ness: moving beyond the dominant narratives of trans* male and trans* female experiences & identities; beyond the dominant narrative of genderqueer; emphasis on medically transitioning & doing it a certain way; misogyny and transmisogyny in trans* spaces & communities; gender policing & gender essentialism; binary gender identities and expressions being seen as the default, superior to non-binary identities & expressions

~ misogyny, transmisogyny, anti-femininity in trans male / trans masculine, trans female / trans feminine, and non-binary spaces & communities, and in cisgender gay/lesbian/queer spaces.

~ transitioning (socially and/or medically) and classism, racism, dis/ability, medical status, mental health status, ageism, etc.; pressure to transition

~ medically transitioning via underground hormones & surgery; holistic/alternative transitioning

~ gender policing, gender essentialism, gender stereotyping

~ non-binary gender identities, non-binary gender expressions & transition therapy; transitioning (medically and/or socially) as a non-binary-gendered persyn & being misgendered / mispronouned, alienated from binary trans & gay/lesbian communities and spaces;

~ moving beyond dominant images & narrative of “genderqueer”; the genderqueer community (is there one?)

~ socially and/or medically “detransitioning” voluntarily or involuntarily; lack of information about stopping medical transition; lack of support for “detransitioning” within trans* communities and spaces

~ shifting gender identity before, during or after social or medical transition

~ coming out vs not coming out

~ navigating gendered spaces (bathrooms, etc.) as a binary or non-binary trans*, intersex, and/or genderqueer, etc., person

Essays, poems, rants, etc. all welcome but no erotica, please – I want this zine to be accessible to kids & teens as well as adults! (Also, absolutely no racist/xenophobic, ableist, classist, ageist, sexist or misogynistic or transmisogynistic, queer/homophobic, transphobic, cissexist, or otherwise bigoted crap!)

Maximum of 3 pages single-spaced per submission, please! Typed or handwritten.

Artwork (drawings, photos, collages, etc.) totally welcome & appreciated! 1-2 pages per submission!

On October 5, the container ship MV Rena ran aground on Astrolabe Reef, resulting in an oil spill that is already being regarded as the worst environmental disaster in New Zealand’s history.

Clean up efforts are underway, but the danger to local wildlife remains high. A raft of Little Blue Penguins has already been negatively impacted by the spill.

The Kiwi yarn store Skeinz has put out a call for penguin sweaters — an adorable-sounding but very necessary accessory that helps keep the birds from preening their feathers and ingesting the oil.

Skeinz has posted knitting instructions for anyone willing to lend a hand

due to an extremely disappointing number of submissions, we have decided to push back the deadline for hoax #6. we are now taking submissions until the first week of november.

if you are interested in submitting, we strongly suggest that you let us know as soon as possible. we are both more than happy to work with you during every stage of the writing process.

remember, hoax #6 cannot happen without your efforts.

as previously stated, the topic of hoax #6 will be feminisms & COMMUNICATION!!!

potential ideas for material include, but are not limited to:

how we utilize the various creative mediums to express ourselves: ie art/music/playwriting/dance/zines etc.

language: terminology / identifications / labels / who is allowed to use certain terms / reclamation

media: various types / their historical & cultural relevancy / effectiveness for social change / the decline of print media / online activism & social justice movements

visibility: how we choose to communicate our identities (verbally and non verbally) / how different communication styles “out” us / secrecy / how we talk & to whom / where do you draw the line in sharing certain information (online, at yr job etc.)

non-verbal communication: how we “read” and then judge others / body politics & gendered expressions (“passing” and “body work”)

consent: expressed vs. body language / legacy of shitty health class information / talking about queer and/or non-normative sex

silence: when not to speak / boundaries

relationships: communicating different with various friends, partners, family members, strangers etc.

emotion: how it gets intertwined with communication & makes it more or less effective / intensity & whether it will hinder someone’s account as being believable (“too angry” “hysterical”)

disagreements: how do and should we communicate our ideas to those who disagree with us? / “tone arguments” / should a person with a marginalized identity have to “play nice” when talking to somebody who has privilege over them? / “call outs” & accountability processes / expressing hate & anger

the self: self-care / where the self ends & community begins / expressing yr needs / creating & sustaining personal boundaries

accessibility: geographic accessibility / accessibility to language / pretension / the “academic industrial complex”

networking: action / teamwork / friendships

space: physical / emotional

legislation: policy / community organizing / the importance of local action

we also totally need lotsof artwork (photos, collages, illustrations, drawings, paintings, comics, etc.)! particularly for background designs and things that compliment the written material.

people of all backgrounds & genders are welcome to submit!

we are looking forward to seeing yr work!

in solidarity,
sari & rachel
